A Study of Vasomotor Responses Following upon Experimental Lesions of the Brain Stem *
نویسندگان
چکیده
It is believed that the sympathetic nervous system through its peripheral distribution, and possibly through central connections, exerts, at least' in part, a control on vasomotor tonus. In recent years, several series of experiments on dogs have been conducted in this laboratory to determine the course of vasomotor fibers as measured by thermic changes in the feet after arterial ligation and section of the spinal cord at various levels.0"1 The occurrence of vasodilatation in the dog's foot was observed after hemisection or transection of the spinal cord at a level as high as C-1. It seemed advisable subsequently to investigate the possibility of a central vasomotor regulatory mechanism, and to fix, if possible, the locus of control of this particular phenomenon. Furthermore, it seemed important to consider two other functions;--the r8le of arterial blood pressure changes, and the r8le of body temperature changes in connection with peripheral temperature manifestations induced by sympathetic nervous system control. The present communication is a report on the approach which has been made to these problems.

Therapeutic Potential of Cord Blood Stem Cell in Brain Damage of an Animal Model
Purpose: At the present time the role of stem cells and its therapeutic effects is well known. Human or animal (bone marrow or cord blood) stem cells in stem cell therapy are a promising attempt to improve the recovery after post embryonic injuries. Materials and Methods: The present study was carried out on young Wistar rats. At first, cord blood stem cells (CBSCs) were isolated, and labeled w...
متن کاملPharmacotherapy to Improve the Acquired Aphasia following Brain Damages: A Review Study
Background & Aim: Using pharmaceutical agents in treatment of aphasia has caught the attention of many neurologists and neuroscientists. This short review study has sought the role of pharmacotherapy in treatment of aphasia, a linguistic impairment after acquired brain lesions. The pharmacological principles and mechanisms related to the effects of drugs used in aphasia rehabilitation are point...
متن کاملP 100: Stem Cells as Neuroinflammatory Modulator in TBI: A Narrative Review
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is physical damage to the brain structure which has a high global rate of mortality and morbidity. TBI can cause intense inflammatory response due to accumulation of leukocytes in cerebral matrix and activation of microglia. Microglia can differentiate into M1 macrophages or M2 macrophages following the changes in biochemical properties of brain tissue. M1 sub type ...
متن کاملThe Effects of Female Sex Steroids on Gastric Secretory Responses of Rat Following Traumatic Brain Injury
Objective(s) Gastric ulceration is induced by various forms of stress like surgery, ischemia and trauma. The female sex has more resistance to stress and the gastrointestinal lesions happen fewer than male sex. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of estradiol and progesterone on the gastric acid and pepsin levels following traumatic brain injury (TBI) induction. Materials and M...
متن کاملIdentification of Imaging and Clinical Markers Predicting Chronic Sleep Disturbances After Traumatic Brain Injury in Adults
Background and Aim: We aimed to determine the prognostic imaging and clinical markers of chronic Post-Traumatic Sleep-Wake Disorders (PTSWDs) with a special focus on the early cognitive and executive dysfunctions following Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The prevalence rate of Post-Traumatic Psychiatric Disorders (PTPDs) in various sleep disorders was also investigated. Methods and Materials/Pat...
